Workshops Offered Through Art On The Green

To coincide with Coeur d’Alene’s Art on the Green each year, the festival conducts a series of art workshops at North Idaho College.

Art on the Green’s Summer Art Institute begins July 29.

The classes encompass most everything, from drawing to fiction writing, and are geared toward people of all skill levels.

The following workshops still have space available:

Gloria Vando Hickok will conduct a poetry workshop, “From Feeling to Form: A Holistic Approach to Writing Poems,” July 29 through Aug. 1, 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $60. For one college credit from Lewis and Clark State College, add $25.

A publishing workshop, “How to Get Published Without Getting an Ulcer” (self-explanatory), is set for July 31 at 7 p.m. The two-hour workshop costs $10.

“Storytelling in Our Lives” is a four-day class taught by author Rodney Frey. The daily three-hour class is from July 29 through Aug. 1; cost is $60. For one college credit from Lewis and Clark State College, add $25.

Summer Art Institute instructors - Hickok, Frey and Clay Morgan - will give readings at the North Idaho College Library on July 30, from 7 to 8 p.m.

Ken Spiering, an accomplished local artist, will discuss “Drawing and the Natural Form,” July 31 and Aug. 1. Each session meets from 5 to 9 p.m.; cost is $35.

Most courses require additional materials.

Local artists in exhibition

Lewis-Clark Center for Arts and History opened its “Artists of the Palouse, Prairie and Valley” exhibit Friday.

The annual show, which runs through Aug. 9, features regional artists, many of whom are local. Unfortunately, there are too many to list here.

Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is $1. The Center for Arts and History will be closed from June 30 through July 7. For more details, call (208) 799-2243.
