Iditarod Begins Run
The Iditarod’s 60 mushers left the hoopla behind and began an 1,150-mile trek to Nome.
The mushers made their ceremonial start in downtown Anchorage on Saturday, and the leaders are expected to reach Skwentna late Sunday or early Monday, 100 miles into the journey.
This year’s race, the 24th, started under clear skies with temperatures in the low teens. But forecasters are predicting a relatively warm race during daylight hours.
