Mayor Protests, But Hailey Helps

Despite protests from the mayor, Hailey is sending $750 to flood victims in North Idaho.

Mayor Steve Kearns told the City Council his office is bombarded with charity requests.

His policy has been not to “donate money to causes unless they directly benefit the citizens of Hailey.”

“If the shoe was on the other foot, Hailey sure would appreciate money from northern Idaho,” new Councilman Rick Davis replied. “We live in a great state. I support united Idaho.”

“The private sector should do this,” Councilman Brad Siemer said.

The measure still passed 3-0, with Siemer abstaining.
