M’S Spring To Win Behind Buhner

From Wire Reports

Spring training

Jay Buhner broke out of a spring slump by going 2 for 2 and driving in two runs as the Seattle Mariners beat the San Francisco Giants 7-4 Friday at Scottsdale, Ariz.

Buhner, who had an RBI double in the second inning and a sacrifice fly in a four-run fifth, entered the game 1 for 15 this spring with just one RBI.

Ken Griffey Jr. added an RBI infield single in the fifth, which also included a run-scoring double by Luis Sojo and a sacrifice fly by Russ Davis.

Alex Rodriguez had an RBI groundout in the fourth for Seattle and Darren Bragg a run-scoring double in the sixth.

Paul Menhart started for Seattle, allowing one run on five hits in four innings. Rafael Carmona struck out the side in the ninth for the save.

Bonds wins ruling against ex-wife

At Redwood City, Calif., a judge has granted San Francisco Giants star Barry Bonds everything he sought in his divorce battle with his ex-wife, cutting his spousal support payments in half and awarding him both the couple’s houses.

In making her ruling, Judge Judith Kozloski of San Mateo County Superior Court rejected claims by Bonds’ former wife, Sun Bonds, that she was entitled to indefinite spousal support of $30,000 a month on the grounds that he had allegedly beaten her during their six-year marriage.

Sun Bonds was granted $10,000 a month in spousal support, half of what Barry Bonds has been paying, plus continuation of the $20,000 a month he has been paying for the couple’s two young children.

Yankee second basemen Pat Kelly underwent an MRI on his right shoulder, the same one on which he had arthroscopic surgery on in October 1995. Results from the MRI showed the aggravation Kelly was experiencing was not a complication from the surgery, but tendinitis brought on by the escalating intensity of spring training workouts. … California third baseman Jack Howell sustained a minor concussion when he collided with Milwaukee outfielder Chuck Carr during an attempted pick off play Friday. Howell was taken to a hospital for tests.
