Spring Schedule Heats Up Baseball, Softball, Track, Tennis, Soccer Get Started
Although many baseball, softball and soccer fields could use dry weather to shape up, the high school athletic calendar does say spring.
And, ready or not, a handful of teams begin their seasons this week.
The Coeur d’Alene High baseball team, which finished runner-up to State A-1 champion Lewiston last year, will throw out the first pitch of the season this afternoon when it visits University in Spokane. The game is scheduled for 3:30.
In other baseball openers Friday, Lake City will travel to University for a 3 p.m. game and Post Falls goes to North Central for a 3:30 game.
Sandpoint also opens Friday at Grandview (Wash.) at 3. In games Saturday, Sandpoint is at Ritzville while St. Maries goes to Orofino.
In track, Lake City will host the first-ever jamboree Friday at 3. Coeur d’Alene, Sandpoint, Post Falls and Lakeland will compete in the non-scoring event. Admission is $4 for adults (senior citizens free) and $2 for students. All proceeds go to the Youth Endowment of Activities Fund sponsored by the Idaho High School Activities Association.
In softball, Coeur d’Alene gets the jump on area teams when it visits Cheney in a single fastpitch game Friday at 3:30. St. Maries visits Orofino on Saturday.
The Coeur d’Alene and Lake City tennis teams open Friday and Saturday at the Lewiston Invitational.
In boys soccer, CdA and LC travel to Kennewick for season-opening matches this weekend.
CdA takes on Kennewick and LC goes against Kamiakin on Friday while the teams swap opponents on Saturday.
