Alabama, Tulane Post Nit Wins
At Columbia, S.C., Eric Washington had 25 points, including a go-ahead 3-pointer, and Alabama (19-11) watched South Carolina (19-12) blow three chances to tie in the final minute to reach the NIT semifinals after a 68-67 win.
Alabama will make its fourth trip to New York’s Madison Square Garden as an NIT semifinalist and first since 1979. The Crimson Tide will meet either Rhode Island or St. Joseph’s on Tuesday.
At New Orleans, Jerald Honeycutt scored 18 of his 25 points in the second half and Tulane shook off Illinois State 83-72 to advance to the semifinals.
LeVeldro Simmons added 21 points for Tulane (21-9). Maurice Trotter led the Redbirds (22-12) with 16 points.
