Benjamin Denn Arbor Day Poster Competition Winner
Benjamin Denn, a third-grader at Prairie View Elementary School in Post Falls, was the statewide winner in the Arbor Day poster competition sponsored by the U.S. Forest Service. As a result, a tree was planted on Tuesday.
Jessica Johnson, Lakeland High School, and Benjamin Rider, St. Maries High School, were both chosen to receive a $2,000 National Merit Scholarship.
Both were chosen from among 14,000 outstanding high school seniors who advanced to the finalist level in the 1996 Merit Program. They were selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors based on academic records, scores from two tests, community and school contributions, leadership qualities, personal goals and interests, and a recommendation from their principal.
Dorothy Dahlgren, director of The Museum of North Idaho, was recently chosen to attend the Federal Institute of Museum Services Grant Reviewer Training Workshop in Washington D.C.
The program provides the opportunity for museum experts to gain in-depth knowledge of the grant application review process and share high quality museum practices.
Dahlgren has reviewed applications for the Institute of Museum Services General Operating Support Grants for four years and was chosen based on her comprehensive knowledge of museum operations.
