Carrey Handles Song Gracefully
Jim Carrey’s over-the-top version of Jefferson Airplane’s 1967 acid-rock romp “Somebody to Love” from “The Cable Guy” soundtrack is destined to become the pop novelty hit of the summer.
At first, Carrey mimics the song’s original vocalist, Grace Slick, but the rubber-faced comedian quickly degenerates into a goofy near-yodel.
The backing track is faithful to the Airplane’s hit single, complete with noodling fuzz-tone guitar, which adds to the humor.
The movie soundtrack, with performances by Porno for Pyros, Silverchair, Cypress Hill, Ruby and Cracker is due in stores May 21.
“The Cable Guy,” also starring Matthew Broderick, opens nationwide June 14.
