Forestry Contest Draws Record Number
A record number of students will compete in log scaling, plant identification, timber cruising, tool identification and other events in the Idaho State Forestry Contest Thursday.
As many as 400 contestants, instructors, and volunteers are expected. Four-member teams compete in seven categories. The contest is sponsored by the Idaho Department of Lands and the Bonner Soil Conservation District.
The contest is designed to introduce students to basic forestry skills. It will be held at Ray Delay Farms in Careywood, about 25 miles north of Coeur d’Alene.
Sandpoint High School instructors and students will provide computer scoring. The top individual scorer will receive a $100 U.S. Savings Bond provided by the David Ritz Memorial Fund.
