Junior Lilac Parade Marches Into Downtown Spokane

It may not generate nearly as much publicity as the Lilac Torchlight Parade, but to thousands of Inland Northwest kids, the Spokane Junior Lilac parade is a pretty big deal.

The parade, whose theme is “Junior Lilac Beach Blast,” winds its way through downtown on Saturday. It starts at the corner of Washington and Spokane Fall Boulevard at 10 a.m. and finishes at the corner of Post and Spokane Falls.

Over 8,000 participants - mostly elementary and middle school students - march during the Junior Lilac Parade, making it one of the largest children’s parades in the nation.

This year, local Boy Scout and Camp Fire troops will be in uniform. So will a host of marching bands and drill teams. Even the Lilac royalty court will appear. Other entries include a handful of floats, firefighters, DARE officers and several local politicians.

There’s no cost to spectate, of course. But get there early as space disappears well before the parade starts.
