Frank Fredericks of Namibia beat U.S. Olympic gold medal hopeful Dennis Mitchell in the 100-meter sprint Saturday in the first Grand Prix meet held in Asia.

Fredericks was clocked in 10.09 seconds, followed by Mitchell in 10.16, and Canadian Bruny Surin in 10.28.

In the Barcelona Olympics, Fredericks, Mitchell and Surin finished second, third and fourth.

Fredericks overtook Mitchell with 40 meters left and surged ahead for the victory.

The Namibian said he will run in both the 100-meter and 200-meter sprints in the Atlanta Olympics. World record holder Allen Johnson led a 1-2-3 sweep by Americans in the 110-meter hurdles.
