Panel To Decide On Tree Workers
The Coeur d’Alene Planning Commission will hold a hearing tonight on whether to allow a controversial home-based tree service to use employees who don’t live there.
Jacobson’s Tree Service is applying for a special use permit that would allow for two to four outside employees. The employees primarily would be coming by to get equipment, leave equipment or consult with the Jacobsons regarding jobs, the company’s application said.
Jacobson’s Tree Service has been operating out of Dan Jacobson’s North 23rd Street home for about a decade. Last summer, a city inspector discovered the business didn’t have the right permit to operate out of a home in a residential zone.
Jacobson was told to move his tree service to a commercial zone. Instead, he applied for a home business permit.
City staff rejected that application twice because the business violated several of the rules for the business. Jacobson appealed to the City Council and won.
One of Jacobson’s neighbors, Ida Hawkins, is suing the council for approving that home business permit. She contends the business is hurting her property values and that she has had to put up with an increasing amount of equipment and noise.
