Freemen Sympathizer Arrives

From Staff And Wire Reports

A U.S. Senate candidate from Colorado, himself a foe of federal government intrusions, arrived in eastern Montana Wednesday evening to open FBI-requested negotiations with the freemen involved in a 52-day standoff.

Colorado Sen. Charles Duke, a leader in his state’s patriot movement, said he was called to Montana by the FBI but is not the agency’s lackey, although he sympathizes with some of the anti-government positions of the freemen but not some of their practices.

Joining Duke was state Rep. Karl Ohs, also a Republican state legislator, who has met on numerous previous occasions with the freemen at their 960-acre compound on a foreclosed farm northwest of Jordan.

The FBI believes 18 people, including three children, are holed up in the enclave.
