Vanderbilt Athlete Arrested
Vanderbilt basketball player Pax Whitehead was arrested during the weekend and charged with drunken driving and unlawfully carrying a pistol.
Whitehead was the team’s fourth-leading scorer last season and will be a senior in the fall. He was celebrating his 23rd birthday when he was stopped at a police roadblock.
According to the police report, Whitehead’s blood alcohol level was 0.11 percent, just over the legal limit of 0.10 percent for driving. Police also said they spotted an unloaded 9 mm pistol in the car.
Whitehead told police he was carrying the gun for protection and bought it on the street.
