Hearing Due In Rape Case Bsu Student Leader Allegedly Had Sex With Unconscious Woman In Motel Room In Lewiston

Associated Press

A preliminary hearing is scheduled June 10 for a former Boise State University student body vice president accused of raping an unconscious woman in a Lewiston motel room last October.

Darryl L. Wright, 28, of Boise, appeared on Wednesday in Nez Perce County Magistrate Court. His preliminary hearing will be before Magistrate Stephen Calhoun.

Wright is charged with having sexual intercourse with a woman, who was 20 at the time, while she was passed out in his motel room.

According to police reports, the woman, a student at Idaho State University at Pocatello, said she had several drinks at a Moscow bar on Oct. 14 and did not recall anything after sitting down in a chair there until she woke up in a bed in Wright’s room the following morning.

Wright and his roommate were asleep in another bed in the room, she told police.

Under Idaho’s rape law, Wright will have to prove the woman was conscious and aware of what was happening, Nez Perce County Prosecutor Denise Rosen said outside Wednesday’s hearing.

If convicted, Wright could be sentenced to a maximum of life in prison and a $50,000 fine.
