Fifa Targets Wire Fences

Compiled From Wire Services

FIFA, the world’s governing body for soccer, urged the worldwide dismantling of wire fences from soccer stadiums following the Oct. 16 stampede in Guatemala City that killed 84 fans.

In an editorial in the FIFA News, general secretary Sepp Blatter likened the incident to a 1989 disaster at Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield, England, where 95 people were killed.
