Hints From Heloise
Dear Heloise: One of my favorite scented candle wicks burned out before the wax was gone. I put the candle in a small pot of water and let it simmer. The scent fills the room, it’s heavenly and I don’t have to throw unused candle wax away. - LaTara Carter, San Antonio
Please be sure to use very low heat (simmering in water) only, because allowing the wax to get too hot can be dangerous. And be absolutely sure not to let the pot boil dry. - Heloise
Dear Heloise: I enjoy your column of helpful hints and I think I have one for you.
In a rush? Bathroom sinks need a quick sparkle? Try a little toothpaste. It’s nonabrasive and does the job quickly.
Thanks for the many time- and money-savers. - Jean M. Shones, Naples, Fla.
Dear Heloise: I use empty milk cartons to put my clothespins in. I cut a slot on the handle to hang them on the clothesline.
I’ve found that I can also hang the gallon milk container on my pocket or my belt and walk up and down the clothesline, making it so easy to hang the wash. - Darrell M. McCurdy, San Antonio
