Snow Sport Report

Alpine skiing

The storm that brought ice to Spokane dumped fresh snow in the mountains. The result: most of the region’s ski areas are going off!

Silver Mountain’s season opens today with a 46-inch base.

Schweitzer Mountain opens Saturday and Sunday and then will most likely close until Thanksgiving.

Lookout Mountain operates today through Sunday.

49 Degrees North also opens today after receiving more than 30 inches of new snow.

Nordic Skiing

Conditions at the Mt. Spokane Sno-Park are excellent, with groomed tracks for classic and skating-style skiers.

Three feet of snow fell at Priest Lake, but the cross country trails around Hills Resort aren’t groomed. For updates, call the forest service.

Snowmobiling

The Winter Knights Snowmobiling Club moved its family ride up to its new warming hut on North Baldy to Dec. 15. Info: (509) 483-7669.

Four hundred miles of snowmobile trails have been groomed around Priest Lake. A trail map costs $1 at the ranger station in Nordman.

“There’s snow and we have power,” said Kathy McKeown, second-year owner of The Resort at Mt. Spokane, formerly Kirk’s Lodge. She said there are plenty of snowmobilers using the trailhead at the lodge. Info: (509) 238-9114.
