Paeng Nepomuceno of the Philippines, who already had made history by winning the Bowling World Cup in three decades, won it for the fourth time, defeating American Drew Hylen 243-172 in Castlereagh, Northern Ireland.

American Kirstin Holum, the 16-year-old daughter of an Olympic champion, pulled the biggest surprise of the speedskating World Cup in Berlin by finishing third in the 1,500 meters.

Holum clocked 2 minutes, 7.09 seconds to finish behind Germany’s Gunda Niemann and Tonny De Jong of The Netherlands.

The men’s 1,500 was won by The Netherlands’ Ids Postma in a track record of 1:53.34.

The Canada One team of driver Pierre Lueders and breakman Dave McEachern took first by edging United States One, with Jim Herberich and Garrett Hines, by just 0.08 seconds in the opening two-man bobsled World Cup, at Altenberg, Germany.

Claudia Riegler of New Zealand gave away most of a big first-run lead, then held on to edge Sweden’s Pernilla Wiberg by .07 seconds and win a women’s World Cup slalom in Park City, Utah.
