Cincinnati point guard Charles Williams dribbled the ball out of bounds with 5.4 seconds left, and Lenny Brown hit a floating jumper from the foul line as time ran out, giving crosstown rival Xavier a 71-69 victory Tuesday night at Cincinnati.

Cincinnati (1-1) blew a five-point lead in the final 1:28 and Xavier (2-0) took advantage of 21 Bearcats’ turnovers.

At Lahaina, Hawaii, the Jayhawks (3-0) scored the last 17 points of the game to beat the Bears (1-1) at the Maui Invitational.

At Logan, Utah, Keith Van Horn scored 17 points as the Utes (2-0) beat the Aggies (1-1).

(7) Michigan 87, Ball St. 63

At Ann Arbor, Mich., Louis Bullock’s 28 points helped the Wolverines (1-0) beat the Cardinals (1-1). The game was delayed 17 minutes in the first half when Michigan’s 6-foot-8, 300-pound Robert Traylor broke a backboard on a breakaway dunk.
