Pipe Bomb Suspect Has Left The State

From Staff And Wire Reports

Police believe they know who built a pipe bomb that was discovered in a garage on Birch Avenue on Saturday.

But the suspect has left the state, Capt. Carl Bergh said Tuesday.

Bergh said the department is working with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms on the case, and the two agencies have not decided what charges should be brought against the suspect.

The pipe bomb was destroyed after police called in an Army bomb squad from Yakima. The bomb was reported by a resident of the house.

Under Idaho law, the suspect can be charged only with a misdemeanor. If the ATF is involved, federal charges could be brought against him, Bergh said.

According to Bergh, the suspect had no intentions of threatening anyone or any buildings with the bomb.

“The person was going to try it out in a remote area to see what kind of damage it would do to a VCR,” he said.
