Pair Plead Guilty In Gambling Case
A Redmond, Wash., man and woman have pleaded guilty to charges they operated a sports bookmaking operation, U.S. Attorney Kate Pflaumer said Wednesday. The man also admitted trying to torch a local business.
Dean Scott, 74, pleaded guilty Tuesday to illegal transmission of wagering information and attempted arson. An associate, Beverly Anne Bate, 60, pleaded guilty last week to illegal transmission of wagering information.
Pflaumer said Scott and Bate operated their bookmaking operation from January 1994 to March 1996.
The attempted arson charge stems from Scott allegedly hiring an undercover detective to burn down the Hotel Cafe in Redmond last January. Scott thought the detective was a bookmaker, Pflaumer said.
Scott could receive up to 22 years in prison and fines totaling $500,000. Bate could be sentenced to up to two years in prison and fined $250,000.
