Road Woes Continue For Chiefs

The Spokane Chiefs’ losing streak on the road reached five games Friday when Kelowna scored three times in the final period for a 6-3 Western Hockey League victory.

It was the Rockets’ first win over Spokane in four tries this season.

The final period was all Rockets. Scott King scored on a break-away to make it 4-3 at the 3:27 mark. King then slipped a pass to Scott Parker, formerly with the Spokane Braves, who slapped it in from the right circle for 5-3 with little more than 7 minutes to play.

Kelowna’s final goal was scored by Ryan Wade into an empty net. It was his third of the game.

Ryan Andrus staked Kelowna to a 1-0 lead with a rebound goal off a Jordan Walker shot with 5:54 gone in the first period.

Wade scored a little more than 3 minutes later to put the Rockets up 2-0. Wade redirected a shot by Chris Mollette that found its way through the pads of Chiefs’ goalie Aren Miller. Exit Miller, enter Marc Magliarditi.

Spokane cut the deficit in half on Joe Cardarelli’s 15th goal of the season. Cardarelli scored from the left circle following a Rockets turnover at the 11:53 mark.

Kelowna stretched its lead to 3-1 on Wade’s second goal of the game, this one on a power play, with 50 seconds left in the opening period.

Marian Cisar scored a pair of goals in the second period and the Chiefs’ defense shut down the Rockets to tie it at 3-3.

On a positive note, the Chiefs’ Trent Whitfield and Joel Boschman both returned to the ice from injuries.

Spokane plays at Tri-City tonight before returning home for a Sunday night game against Swift Current.
