Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: After reading a hint in the Dallas Morning News about disposing of broken glass in coffee cans or heavy sacks, I was reminded of what our cook used to do when she inadvertently broke a glass item. After getting the large pieces picked up, she would lightly wet a stale slice of bread and “mop up” the tiny splinters so as not to get tiny pieces in fingers or toes. I use that hint to this day when my children or I break a glass.

Enjoy your column and look for all the helpful hints you pass along. - Ruth Robinson, Dallas

Dear Heloise: The newer phone booth presents a real problem - no telephone book! It’s an expensive procedure when you have to call the operator for your number, then pay to call that person. In our area, we get new telephone books at this time of the year, so I take an old book and carry it in the trunk of my car.

It has helped me (and others) often. - Eleanor Lyons, Freedom, Pa.
