WSU’s Scott Suspended From Basketball Team

From Staff And Wire Reports

Washington State senior guard Chris Scott won’t be with the team when it begins practices on Tuesday.

Coach Kevin Eastman said Scott failed to meet NCAA eligibility standards.

Although NCAA rules would allow Scott to practice with the team, Eastman said “we are going to suspend him from all basketball-related activities indefinitely.”

The 6-foot-3 Scott, a defensive specialist, came off the bench in 28 games for the Cougars last season, averaging 2.2 points and two rebounds per game. Scott, of Hugo, Okla., transferred to WSU from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.

Top players choose UW

Washington’s top two basketball recruits have verbally committed to play for the University of Washington next season.

Dan Dickau, a 6-foot guard from Prairie High School near Vancouver, and Michael Johnson, a 6-5 guard from Ballard High in Seattle, announced their intentions.

Dickau averaged 19.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists as a junior and impressed recruiters with his play in summer camps and tournaments.

Johnson averaged 24.5 points and six rebounds last season and was the state’s Class AA player of the year.

Whitworth ranked No. 24.

Whitworth College, last year’s NAIA Division II runnerup, will begin the season at No. 24 in the NAIA preseason Top 25 poll. Bethel (Ind.) earned the No. 1 ranking. Albertson College, which beat Whitworth in the final, begins at No. 17.

Myles down

North Idaho College’s Todd Myles, a 6-foot-4 transfer from West, had emergency exploratory stomach surgery earlier this week, but is expected to be back at practice next week.
