Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: I have found it hard to find small bottle brushes. To solve the problem of cleaning the bottles, I place a small amount of gravel plus some water in them, then place my thumb over the opening and shake vigorously. This works great for hummingbird feeders and other bottles with very small openings.

Hope this helps other bird watchers in keeping feeders clean. - Barbara Cain, Marshfield, Mo.

Dear Heloise: My wife has hearing aids that use zinc-air batteries. There is a small orange sticker over the hole in each battery, which one removes when using the battery for the first time. To remember when new batteries were installed, we put the stickers on the date on the calendar as a reminder. - Gordon Walker, Anaheim, Calif.
