4-H Leaders Recognized For Service, Dedication

Local 4-H leaders from Kootenai and Shoshone Counties recently received pins honoring their service and dedication at a banquet sponsored by Washington Water Power last month.

20-year pins: Lu Broadsword, Marsha Broadsword and Bob Rider.

15-year pins: Cindy Hutchins, John Marsan and Karleen Meyer.

10-year pins: Evelyn Boseth, Joy Crupper, Barbara Dorrell, Jack Dorrell and Kris Hackwith.

5-year pins: Ernie Bentz, Diane Blum, Darlene Bokelman, May Dooley, Terri Dubose, Donna Euler, Jack Finney, Gene Hergert, Jan Nordberg, Donna Page, Vicki Pennington, Cindy Radavich, Larry Sande, Evie Scrabeck and Rick Tejada.

Ernie and Rose Bentz received 1996 Leaders of the Year Awards.

Members of the local Easy Rider 4-H Club earned ribbons for their efforts at the North Idaho Fair in August.

Heather Branstetter received reserve champion in horse competition for Western jumping and stock seat and placed in poles, flag racing and figure eight.

Katie Branstetter, received champion placing on her club secretary book.

Blue ribbons: Jack Douglas, leathercraft; Krystal Douglas, photography; Sunnie Anderson, modeling; and Heather Branstetter, international food project.

Red ribbons: Sunnie Anderson, sewing and trail projects; Katie Branstetter, trail project; and Heather Branstetter, fitting and showing and trail project.

White ribbons: Heather Branstetter, trail competition.

The club received a red ribbon on its scrapbook.

Navy Fireman Thomas E. Puckett, son of Robert and Susan Puckett of Sandpoint, is supporting operations of aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson and its embarked air wing in the Persian Gulf.

Puckett, a 1993 graduate of Sandpoint High School, joined the Navy in January 1995.

Aircraft from the USS Carl Vinson are enforcing the expanded no-fly zone in support of Operation Southern Watch. The carrier left its home port in Alameda, Calif., in May for a scheduled six month deployment to the Western Pacific, Indian Ocean and Persian Gulf.
