Colville Ties Pullman For Second In Frontier League Volleyball Race

Paige Quistad had 10 kills, including a pair to seal the first game, as Colville (7-3) beat visiting Pullman 15-1, 15-11, 15-13 Saturday to tie for second place in Frontier League volleyball with two matches left.

Colville stormed to an 8-0 firstgame lead, then had a six-point run in the second game. Pullman’s Leah Hannan had nine digs.

Both teams must play fourth-place Clarkston (5-5), which is protecting a one-game lead over Cheney. The top four teams advance to district.

The Greater Spokane League season-ending match between Central Valley (4-11) and Gonzaga Prep (8-7) was moved to 7 p.m. Monday. If CV wins, it clinches the sixth and final spot to the Cavanaugh’s Inns District 8-AAA Tournament, which begins Thursday. A CV loss would create a three-way tie with Shadle Park and North Central and force a Tuesday tiebreaker.

Second-place Mead and Lewis and Clark, both 12-4, will also have a tiebreaker Tuesday. The site and format will be determined Monday.

St. John-Endicott beat Whitman County co-champion Tekoa-Oakesdale 11-15, 15-10, 15-7 in the title match of the league tournament at Rosalia.

SJE advances to Saturday’s District 9-B Tournament at Walla Walla as the No. 1 seed. T-O, which opened the day by beating SJE in a seeding match, moves on as No. 2. Garfield-Palouse beat LaCrosse-Washtucna 17-15, 15-10 to determine third and fourth district seeds.

Blue Mountain League champion Pomeroy beat Waitsburg in the title match of the league tournament at Touchet to advance as the No. 1 seed to the District 9-B Tournament.

Waitsburg, which entered as No. 3, made the title match by upsetting No. 2 DeSales. Waitsburg advances as No. 2 to district, DeSales No. 3 and Asotin No. 4.

First-round district openers are SJE vs. Asotin; T-O vs. DeSales; Gar-Pal vs. Waitsburg; and L-W vs. Pomeroy.

Ritzville (7-3) beat Lind to finish the Bi-County League season in fourth place, one notch ahead of also league-tournament bound Almira/Coulee-Hartline and Reardan. The tourney begins Thursday at Wilbur.

Northwest Christian (9-0) beat Inchelium to complete a perfect Panorama League season. The league tournament begins Saturday at Springdale.

Frontier girls soccer

Deer Park/Riverside (12-1-1, 11-1-1, 34 points) took over first place from idle West Valley (33 points) with a 2-0 win over visiting Pullman at Deer Park.

Larissa Mueller scored at 22 minutes after two rebounds on a flurry in front of the goal. Bernice Stime scored when she stole the ball at 58 minutes and dribbled through three defenders. Erin Wahl of Pullman (4-7-2, 4-6-2) made 26 saves.
