A-3 Independent

Wallace Miners

1995 record: 20-8

Coach: Dick Schreiber

Years coaching: 7

Top returners: Lucia Gregory, senior, 5-10, middle blocker; Lisa Calabretta, sr., 5-10, outside hitter; Toya Bailey, junior, 5-3, setter.

Top newcomers: Lindsay Carrico, freshman, 5-8, oh; Richae Striker, frosh., 5-4, back-row specialist; Jessica Krulitz, frosh., 5-7, oh.

Quick sets: The Miners will be facing their toughest schedule since Schreiber resurrected a miserable program. Included in that schedule are three battles with Silver Valley rival Kellogg.

Coach’s comment: “Our overall talent level is one of the best I’ve had as a coach, but we are really lacking in experience.”

Outlook: The Miners shouldn’t be expected to reach last year’s level of success because of their inexperience. That doesn’t mean they will be a bad team. To the contrary. They could be excellent by season’s end. Schreiber feels his team has the ability to play aggressively on offense and should pass the ball very well. If the young players and seniors mesh, a trip to state is a good possibility.
