Former Whitworth Provost Dies

From Staff And Wire Reports

Former Whitworth College provost Kenneth Shipps died Wednesday at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle.

Shipps, 54, served as Whitworth’s provost and dean of faculty from 1992 until last spring, when he accepted a position as provost at John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Ark.

Health problems delayed Shipps’ move to Arkansas. At the time of his death he was awaiting a liver transplant to treat a rare disorder.

A memorial service for Shipps will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, S. 318 Cedar.

Memorial contributions may be made in Shipps’ name to Whitworth College, First Presbyterian Church’s music program, and the Faculty Development Fund at the Coalition for Christian Colleges and Universities.

Shipps is survived by his wife, Charlotte Kroeker; mother Fern Erickson and brother Donald Shipps, both of Colorado Springs, Colo.
