Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: Here is a winner! We have two inflatable plastic owls hanging on our two houses to keep woodpeckers from making holes in the walls.

One blew down and was punctured by a cholla cactus. I cut out the air hole and filled the owl with plastic carry-out bags from the grocery store. Voila! An indestructible owl that will last forever and it’s light as a feather. - Larry Watkins, Gold Canyon, Ariz.

Dear Heloise: I have a good hint for you! My mom and I went to a yard sale a few days ago. We found a cheap plastic trash can with a lid and a full-size bedspread with a pillowcase. We took them home and stapled the bedspread all the way around the trash can. Then, we took the pillowcase and stapled it to the lid.

Now we have a hamper for clothes! - Stacie, from Kansas
