‘Snl’ Yanks Koechner, Walls, Spade
David Koechner, Nancy Walls and David Spade are out at “Saturday Night Live,” according to a cast list released by NBC.
Newcomers when the show starts its 22d season on Sept. 28 will be Ana Gasteyer, most recently a member of the Los Angeles-based comedy troupe The Groundlings, and Tracy Morgan, a stand-up comic from the Bronx.
Returnees from last season’s cast are Jim Breuer, Will Ferrell, Darrell Hammond, Chris Kattan, Norm Macdonald, Mark McKinney, Tim Meadows, Cheri Oteri and Molly Shannon.
Spade’s departure had long been expected. His midshow rants were often panned by critics as unfunny.
Koechner was perhaps best known as half of the flamboyant duo known as The Fops. Walls was known for her impersonation of CNN anchor Bobby Batista.
Tom Hanks will host the “SNL” opener, with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers the musical guests.
