Rain May Put Out Cigar

Compiled From Wire Services

Cigar’s scheduled appearance in Saturday’s Woodward Stakes at Belmont could be washed out.

With nothing but dreadful weather forecast over the next three days, trainer Bill Mott said Cigar might sit out the Woodward rather than run over what could be a sloppy track.

“I haven’t decided yet,” Mott said Wednesday when asked whether he would run Cigar over a wet track. “I wouldn’t be looking forward to it.”

NYRA executives no doubt will cast an anxious eye toward the sky for the next few days, and they’re not likely to like what they see. Track superintendent Don Orlando said the forecast he has received calls for steady rain beginning today.
