Cattle Inventory On Feedlots Grows

Idaho feedlot operators are adding cattle.

The Idaho Agricultural Statistics Service said the Sept. 1 inventory was 250,000 head, up 20,000 head from the month before.

The agency said 67,000 head were placed on feedlots of 1,000 or more, while 44,000 head were sold or otherwise used.

Commercial red meat production during August at Idaho plants was 49.6 million pounds, up 5 percent over last year and up 9 percent from the month before.

So far this year, red meat production is up 3 percent from last year.
