Purdue Denies Report
A report that the NCAA is investigating Purdue’s basketball program is false, Boilermakers athletic director Morgan Burke said.
CBS-TV’s Danny Sheridan, without elaborating, reported during the telecast of the Florida-Tennessee game on “College Football Today” that the NCAA has initiated an investigation of Purdue’s basketball program.
“That is absolutely not true. We have had no indication of anything like that,” Burke said.
Purdue athletic publicity director Jim Vruggink said the NCAA informs universities before it initiates investigations. He said Purdue has received no such notification.
At Fayetteville, Ark. the University of Arkansas basketball team used three ineligible players last season, according to documents released by the athletic department.
University officials have acknowledged publicly the school used two ineligible basketball players. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported the discrepancy.
