UI Taking Part In Streamlined Student Loan Program

Associated Press

Getting a student loan is a long and cumbersome process, filled with federal red tape.

The University of Idaho is taking part in an experimental program to make it a little easier.

The Moscow school was selected as one of 100 institutions participating in a five-year project. There will be some relief from federal regulations.

“Reduction in these regulations will increase the speed and accuracy with which the University of Idaho can process applications, allow us to loan money to students in a more timely manner, and restore full loan eligibility for many applicants,” said Dan Davenport, director of admissions and student financial aid services.

Only about 2 percent of the institutions eligible to participate were selected for the project. Selection criteria include clean audits for several years and the university’s willingness to take extra steps to improve financial aid programs.
