Region summer skiing options: Mt. Bachelor, Bend, Ore., open through July; Blackcomb Mountain at Whistler/Blackcomb Resort in British Columbia, shooting for July or August; regular season at Mt. Hood’s Timberline extends into May, but the high-speed quad will run all summer.

Lookout Pass Ski Area closes Sunday, but backcountry skiers will have a heyday well into summer; Schweitzer operates daily until April 13; Silver Mountain will be open Saturdays indefinitely after this weekend. Info on pass deals: Schweitzer (208) 263-9555; Silver (208) 783-1111.

On Saturday, 16 clams gets you all the BBQ oysters you can eat at 49 Degrees North. The Chewelah resort’s season ends Sunday.

Nordic skiing

Tickets at Methow Valley trails near Mazama, Wash., are discounted to half-price for the remainder of the season.

Big White in Kelowna, B.C., isn’t all about alpine - its 25K of cross country trails are open and groomed. Info: (800) 663-2772.

Snowmobiling

After opening only briefly this week, Sullivan Creek Road (No. 22) in the Ione-South Baldy area is closed again following slumps - or small mudslides. The Slate Creek Road is also closed due to spring grizzly bears. Info: (509) 446-7500

With snow conditions softening, the word for the spring is “Go early and stay high.” Riding remains good in the Panhandle’s upper reaches like Rainy Creek, near Wallace; Lookout Pass; and in Bonner County around Roman Nose.

Trailhead clean-up is planned at Bunco Road, Fernan, and the Fourth of July Pass Sno-Park as soon as the snow melts. Info: CDA Snowmobile Club (208) 772-2434. -Compiled by John Miller
