Memories Stirred By Atlanta Rally

Associated Press

National League

Chipper Jones felt like he was still playing at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium.

Jones drove in the tie-breaking run with a two-out single in the eighth and the Braves won the first regular-season game at Turner Field, rallying to beat the Chicago Cubs 5-4 on Friday.

“That was a good one to break in this field,” said Jones, who went 3 for 4 with two RBIs. “It reminds me of what happened so many times across the street (at Fulton County Stadium). We would be down by a run in the sixth, seventh or eighth inning and then come through with a clutch two-out hit.”

Rockies 5, Expos 4 Montreal

Larry Walker and Jeff Reed homered as Colorado beat Montreal, stopping its four-game losing streak against the Expos.

Billy Ashley broke a 2-2 tie in the seventh with a pinch double and scored on Wilton Guerrero’s triple - his first RBI in the majors.

Giants 6, Mets 4 San Francisco

Right fielder Glenallen Hill threw out a runner at home plate, then singled in the seventh inning to drive in the go-ahead run as San Francisco beat New York.
