Angels’ Murray Gets Tossed
Anaheim’s Eddie Murray became the season’s second casualty of the umpires’ new get-tough policy when he was ejected from Monday night’s game against the New York Yankees.
Murray was batting in the fourth inning against New York’s Andy Pettitte when he tried to hold up on a checked-swing. However, first base umpire Mike Reilly ruled that Murray went too far with his swing and called the 20-year-veteran out on strikes.
Murray walked quietly to the Angels’ dugout, but began jawing at Reilly between innings. Rich Garcia, the third base umpire, then ejected Murray.
Angels Manager Terry Collins will not rush left-handed starter Chuck Finley back to the rotation.
“It’ll be 35 degrees and snowing in Cleveland on Friday,” Collins said. “The last thing I need is for Finley to go out there and blow out his elbow.”
