Lewiston Takes Two From Lake City

Ryan Smith had a two-run triple in the first game and struck out four in three innings of the nightcap as Lewiston (7-4, 4-0) swept visiting Lake City 4-1, 15-3 in an Inland Empire League baseball double-header Saturday.

Smith’s triple in the third of the opener supported Ryan Heitmann, who struck out 13 and walked three.

In the second game, Cennet Pierce had three runs batted in to lead 11 Bengals who drove in runs.

The Timberwolves are 2-2 in league.

James Ownbey hit two solo homers, and the Trojans (3-8, 2-3) scored twice in the seventh on an overthrow of a bunt attempt to complete an IEL sweep of the visiting Bulldogs.

Justin Miller doubled twice and had five RBIs, and Mike Heston added a solo homer as PF cruised in the opener.

Ryan Banks struck out 15 to outduel Travis Pool, and the visiting Hawks (8-2, 5-0) scored the winner on Ryan Holt’s suicide squeeze in the 10th in the first game of an Intermountain League sweep of the Bears.

Banks, who threw nearly 150 pitches, ended the game on a grounder with runners on second and third. Pool struck out 10 and walked four.

In the second game, Curt Reese struck out eight and Holt had a two-run single during the three-run second.

Jarred Peters hit a grand slam in the sixth and Lane Watkins had a three-run homer in the first as the Lumberjacks completed an IML sweep of the visiting Badgers.

St. Maries won the opener with two runs in the seventh, as Skylar Willard singled and scored and D.J. Eberlin was hit by a pitch and scored. The Badgers tied the game at 4 with three runs on no hits in the fifth, then pulled ahead in the seventh after Josh Stanley’s RBI single.

Scott Blodgett scored twice just after halftime, both after crossing passes, and the Timberwolves (5-0-1, 4-0-1) earned some revenge over the visiting Bears, who knocked them out of the state tournament last fall.

Moscow’s Tony Gagon scored on a penalty kick at 68 minutes after an LC player took down a Bears player in the goalie box. Brian Landers’ goal with 2 minutes left provided insurance.
