Ferris Wraps Up Title, Beating University 4-1

GSL soccer

The Ferris Saxons clinched their first Greater Spokane League boys soccer title Monday afternoon by defeating University 4-1.

It ends a string of 13 straight titles for Mead, the last 11 outright.

“The kids have done a wonderful job,” said Ferris coach Robin Crain. “They have worked really hard and have jelled as a team.”

Four Saxons scored Monday, and Crain believes that typifies the kind of teamwork Ferris has displayed.

Aaron Crary scored the winning goal at the 26-minute mark. Garth Cummings beat several Titans defenders to find a wide-open Crary near the U-Hi goal and fed him.

Saxons defenders Billy Sleeth, Eric Blatt and Ian Clausen played key roles, said Crain.

Ferris has two games remaining. It plays Lewis and Clark in the 5 p.m. finale of a quadrupleheader at Albi Stadium on Saturday. The first match starts at 11:00 a.m.
