Hecla Mining Posts Improved Earnings
Hecla Mining Co. of Coeur d’Alene reported higher second-quarter earnings than during the same quarter a year ago.
The silver and gold mining company reported $1 million earnings on $48 million of revenue, compared with the 1996 second quarter of $800,000 earnings on $41.2 million of revenue.
Hecla said it produced more silver and gold during this second quarter compared with last year’s, because of expanded operations at both its gold and silver mines. Silver production tripled because of the production starts at mines in Alaska and North Idaho. The start of its Rosebud mine in Nevada improved the company’s gold production.
