Beatrice Orchard Spokane

Visitation for Beatrice G. Orchard, 73, will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. A Vigil service is planned for 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Born in Spokane, Mrs. Orchard died Tuesday.

She was a graduate of St. Joseph Academy in Sprague, Wash., and the Sacred Heart School of Nursing in 1945.

Mrs. Orchard was an assistant supervisor of maternity at Sacred Heart Hospital from 1947 to 1954.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart School of Nursing Alumni Association, St. Augustine Parish and Altar Society, and the Cannon Hill Garden Club.

Her husband, Ray, died in 1993.

Mrs. Orchard is survived by three daughters, Rosemary Schwarz of Seattle, and Anne Hooper and Susan Champagne, both of Spokane; two sons, Lou Orchard of Tucson, Ariz., and Marty Orchard of Seattle; a brother, the Rev. Leonard Gaffney of Spokane; two sisters, Mary Bernice Reilly of Spokane and Rosemary Marto of Chicago; and five grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane or the Brita Bowman Fund c/o Washington Trust Bank.

Jefferson Kyle, M.D. Spokane

Memorial service for Dr. Jefferson D. Kyle, 56, will be at 2 p.m. today at the First Church of the Nazarene. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and cremation.

Dr. Kyle, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Wednesday.

He graduated from North Central High School, the University of Washington and Vanderbilt Medical School.

He served in the Air Force and was on staff at all of the Spokane-area hospitals.

He was a member of the Spokane County, American and Washington State medical societies, and the board of the American College of Surgeons. He had also served as director at St. Luke’s Hospital.

Dr. Kyle also coached YMCA basketball.

Survivors include his wife, Judith; three sons, Jeffrey Kyle of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Blake and Brent Kyle, both of Spokane; his mother, Norma Kyle of Spokane; a brother, Charles Kyle of Ridgefield, Conn.; and three grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Inland Northwest Chapter.

George Arrasmith Palouse, Wash.

Memorial service for George L. Arrasmith, 70, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Greenwood Cemetery in Palouse. Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse is in charge of the arrangements.

Born in Pritchett, Colo., Mr. Arrasmith died Monday.

He was a graduate of Palouse High School and served in the Navy during World War II.

He worked as a carpenter and remodeled houses in Pullman, Moscow and the Potlach, Idaho, area. He retired in the early 1990s.

Mr. Arrasmith was a member of the Potlach Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10300.

Survivors include a son, Darin Arrasmith of West Richland; a daughter, Dayna Arrasmith of Arlington, Va.; two brothers, Charles and Marion Arrasmith, both of Palouse; two sisters, Hazel Kuehner of Palouse and Kathryn LeFore of Milton Freewater, Ore.; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Palouse Emergency Medical Technicians.

Cora Hobright Spokane

Service for Cora E. Hobright, 87, will be at 11 a.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. A graveside service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at High Valley Cemetery in Ellensburg.

Mrs. Hobright, who was born in Tennessee, died Tuesday.

She was a homemaker and volunteered at Lakeland Village as a ‘grandmother’. She was also a member of the South Hill Baptist Church.

Her husband, Guy, died in 1971.

Mrs. Hobright is survived by two daughters, Alice Lewis of Pine Grove, Calif., and Virginia Seifert of Airway Heights; a son, Charles Hobright of Spokane; two brothers, Orville Barrett of Hiawatha, Kan., and Roby Barrett Jr. of Lacomb, Ore.; three sisters, Myrtle Warner of Seattle, Leveta Thomas of Ellensburg, and Alva Lasker of Leavenworth, Wash.; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Harold Woltering Bayview, Idaho

Visitation for Harold Francis Woltering, 73, will be today from 8 a.m. until noon at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. at the Sandpoint First Christian Church.

Mr. Woltering, who was born in Spokane, died Monday.

He served with the Army during World War II in China and moved to North Idaho after his military service.

He had worked for the Northern Pacific/Burlington Northern Railroad for several years and retired in 1984.

Mr. Woltering spent winters on the Oregon Coast.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Irene; a son, Sterling “Lou” Woltering of North Carolina; a daughter, Sheryl Conklin of Hayden Lake, Idaho; a brother, Richard Woltering of California; a sister, Joyce Toner of Elk, Wash.; and six grandchildren.

Richard Wells Spokane

A graveside service for Richard Lawrence Wells, 48, will be at 10 a.m. today at Wildrose Prairie Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at Spokane Valley Assembly of God. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Wells, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Tuesday.

He was a graduate of University High School and Eastern Washing University.

Mr. Wells worked in sales and was a service specialist for US West Communications. He also served with the Wildrose Volunteer Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Marilyn; a son, Richie and a daughter, Ashley, both at the home; his parents, Dick and Betty Wells of Spokane; and a sister, Joan Cruger of Spokane.

Edward Knudson Spokane

Funeral Mass and memorial service for Edward J. Knudson, 82, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Church of the Resurrection-Anglican. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Knudson, who was born in Eckelson, N.D., died Wednesday.

He was a professional salesman and retired from Electro Mart in 1977.

Mr. Knudson married Vickie Rigby in 1974 and was a resident of Spokane for 30 years.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Edward and Pete Knudson, both of Spokane; a daughter, Evelyn Knudson-Burris of Spokane; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

James Smith Spokane

Funeral Mass for James Edward Smith, 73, will be at 1 p.m. today at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Smith, who was born in Newark, N.J., died Wednesday.

He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran and received the Purple Heart and the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Mr. Smith was a member of the Teamsters Union and Eagles Aerie No. 2.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mary; a son, Brian Smith of Colbert; three daughters, Kathleen, Maureen and Eileen, all of Eastern Washington; and three grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Helen Gooley Silverton, Ore.

Vigil service for Helen Ficker Gooley, 93, will be at 7 p.m. today at the Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Born in Odin, Kan., Mrs. Gooley died Saturday.

She moved with her family to Mt. Angel, Ore., in 1916 and married Edward Gooley in 1932. They moved to Harrington, Wash., where they were wheat farmers.

Mrs. Gooley was a member of St. Francis Parish in Harrington and the St. Clare Altar Society.

Her husband died in 1970, and she moved back to Mt. Angel in 1993.

She is survived by two sisters, Anne Schwab and Therese Lebland, both of Mt. Angel.

Evelyn Rector Spokane

Graveside service for Evelyn R. Rector, 84, will be at 3 p.m. today at Riverside Memorial Park. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Born in Alberta, Mrs. Rector died Wednesday.

She moved to Spokane when she was 12 and worked as a clerk with F.W. Woolworths for many years.

Mrs. Rector was a member of the Hillyard Church of God.

She is survived by two sons, Neil Rector of Sacramento, Calif., and Robert Rector of Spokane; a brother, Willard Sundberg of Spokane; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Wilfred Harmening Vancouver, Wash.

Memorial service for Wilfred E. Harmening, 75, was held at the Chewelah United Church of Christ. A second memorial service will be at the Salmon Creek Methodist Church in Hazel Dell, Wash., at a later date.

Born in Bethalto, Ill., Mr. Harmening died July 23.

Mr. Harmening graduated from Bethalto High School and served as a carpenter on merchant marine vessels during World War II.

He moved to Chewelah in 1955 and worked as a construction foreman on the building of the existing church. He also worked as a truck driver, furniture repairman, diesel mechanic, and operated a stone quarry and a silver mine.

Mr. Harmening moved to Vancouver in 1990 and married Viola Monson in 1991.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Susan Hardy of Chewelah; four sons, William Harmening of Spokane, Andrew Harmening of Baline, Wash., David Harmening of Cashmere, Wash., and Thomas Harmening of Carson, Wash.; two stepsons, Roger and James Lihs; 13 grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren.

Lilly Anderson Spokane

Memorial service for Lilly Anderson, 90, is set for 1:30 p.m. today at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Anderson, who died Monday, was born in Makoti, N.D.

She worked as a housekeeper for the Dr. Richard Flaherty family for more than 50 years and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a brother, Arthur Anderson of Spokane.

Frederick Seeds Blanchard, Idaho

A gathering for Frederick Bayfield Seeds, 70, was held at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash.

Mr. Seeds, who was born in Chicago, died Monday.

A veteran of the Navy, he married Margaret Stewart in 1962.

He worked in construction, building residential subdivisions.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Dan Seeds of Austin, Texas, and three grandchildren.

Nancy Hauck Spokane

Service for Nancy Irene Hauck, 41, was June 30.

Born in Canyonville, Ore., Ms. Hauck died June 22.

She was a longtime Spokane resident and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School.

She worked as a homemaker.

Ms. Hauck was a member of the North Shore Animal League.

Survivors include her father, Ray Milles of Hayden Lake, Idaho; and a daughter, Michelle Lewis of Spokane.

Stella Anderson Greenacres

Visitation for Stella Elizabeth Anderson, 73, will be from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Spokane East Stake Center. A grave dedication service will follow at Pines Cemetery.

Born in Nampa, Idaho, Mrs. Anderson died Wednesday.

She graduated from high school in Nampa.

In 1943, she married Carl Anderson.

During World War II she worked on the air base in Pocatello, Idaho and was a homemaker. She moved to Spokane in 1979.

Mrs. Anderson was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.

Her husband died in 1994.

She is survived by two sons, David and Paul Anderson, both of Elko, Nev.; three daughters, Carlene Henderson and Donna Carpenter, both of Greenacres, and Marlene Fredricks of Kettle Falls, Wash.; a sister, Otha Breshears of Nampa; 23 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Donald Angel West Richland

No service for will be held for Donald C. Angel, 78, at his request. Einan’s Funeral Home and Cremation in Richland is in charge of arrangements and cremation.

Mr. Angel, who was born in Spokane, died Friday .

He served in the Army during World War II and worked in electrical power operations in Spokane and surrounding areas.

Mr. Angel moved to West Richland 20 years ago and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife, Kim; four daughters, Donna White of Cupertino, Calif., Roberta Angel of Spokane, Richelle Marley of McCloud, Calif., and Linda Angel of West Richland; four sons, Raymond Angel of Golden, Colo., Ronald Angel of Cocolalla, Idaho, Richard Angel of Spokane and Leon Angel of West Richland; a brother, Willis Angel of Bremerton, Wash.; a sister, Margaret Varner of Spokane; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
