Love’s Minefield

Princess Diana returned to London Sunday fresh from a visit to Bosnia, where she campaigned to highlight the horrors of land mines, only to walk into another sort of minefield - the British tabloid press, which had engaged in a ferocious bidding war for grainy photographs of the 36-year-old princess embracing the man touted to be her new boyfriend. The fuzzy pictures unleashed open season on her private life as the Sunday Mirror told millions of readers that Diana’s “repressed sexuality” was being healed by the love affair with film producer and playboy Dodi Fayed, 41, who had flown to the United States to buy her an engagement ring. Once he pops the ring on her finger, the paper speculated, Diana will leave Britian and move to the United States.
