Cda Tribe Holds Annual Religious Ceremony At Mission

From Staff And Wire Reports

The Coeur d’Alene Tribe’s Feast of the Assumption ceremonies will be held at the Cataldo Mission today. Up to 2,000 people attend the annual event, according to tribal press secretary Bob Bostwick.

It will begin with a procession at 10:30 a.m. Then Mass will be celebrated by the Most Rev. Tod Brown, bishop of the Diocese of Idaho.

A powwow and a feast of traditional foods, hosted by the tribe, will follow.

The Coeur d’Alenes converted to Catholicism after the arrival of a Jesuit missionary in 1842. They built the mission, Idaho’s oldest building, on a knoll above the Coeur d’Alene River.

Old Mission State Park is located off I-90 between Coeur d’Alene and Kellogg. , DataTimes
