Obituaries

Robert Forgey Sandpoint

Memorial service for Robert Charles Forgey, 82, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sandpoint United Methodist Church. Coffelt Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Forgey, who was born in Savoy, Mont., died Sunday.

He graduated from Sandpoint High School, was a gypo logger and owned R & R Logging. He was also a commercial fisherman on Lake Pend Oreille.

Mr. Forgey was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps and a lay leader in the United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Ruth; three daughters, Karen Perttunen, Jan Boatwright and Margaret Churchwell; a sister, Eleanor Jensen; four granddaughters and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice or Sandpoint United Methodist Church.

Alice Merrill Pullman

Visitation for Alice S. Merrill, 88, will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman. Service is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, First Ward, in Pullman. Burial will follow at Pullman Cemetery.

Mrs. Merrill, who was born in Bountiful, Utah, died Monday.

She was a graduate of Utah State University and received her teaching certificate in 1928. She married Thais Merrill that same year.

She taught school in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, then moved to Michigan in 1932. She lived in New York for a few years and returned to Michigan in 1943.

They moved to Pullman in 1946.

Mrs. Merrill was head resident at Kruegel-McAllester Hall at Washington State University and in 1974 became house mother for Alpha Phi at WSU. In 1977 she began substituting as house mother for various sororities at WSU and the University of Idaho.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Ingleside Book Club.

Survivors include twin daughters, Elma Madsen of Albuquerque, N.M., and Erma Hutchins of Highland, Calif.; a sister, Irena Hamilton of Melbourne, Fla.; four grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Hulda Holland Longview, Wash.

Service for Hulda Holland, a former Colfax, Wash., resident, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax. Burial will follow at the Colfax Cemetery.

Born in Goessel, Kan., Mrs. Holland died Tuesday. She was 69.

She graduated from Newport (Wash.) High School.

In 1949 she married Frank Holland Jr. and they lived in Clarkston, Wash. They later moved to Eltopia, Wash., then to Los Angeles in 1950. In 1953 they moved to Colfax.

Mrs. Holland worked as a certified nurse’s assistant at The Manor and also Whitman Hospital. In 1987 they moved to Clatskanie, Ore., and six years ago they moved to Longview.

Mrs. Holland was a member of the Rebekah Lodge No. 13 and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows of Colfax.

Survivors include her husband; five daughters, Marjorie Leander of Sequim, Wash., Naomi Daubert and Eunice Bibler, both of Colfax, Fran Rice of Clatskanie and Doris Tate of Avinger, Texas; a brother, Menno Woelk of Newport; five sisters, Gertrude Hopp of Cheney, Martha Stefanik of Grand Coulee, Mary Ann Butula of Lancaster, N.C., Sue Dahl of Spokane and Linda Henderson of Waxhaw, N.C.; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Dok (Lim) Cha Spokane

Service for Dok Kil (Lim) Cha, 77, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Born in North Korea, Mrs. Cha died Thursday.

She was an assembler at Columbia Lighting until 1980 and was a 25-year resident of Spokane.

She is survived by several family members.

Elsie Michaelsen Colfax, Wash.

Private family graveside service was held for Elsie L. Michaelsen, 86, at Mountain View Cemetery in Davenport, Wash. Memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Community Bible Church in Colfax. Strate Funeral Home in Davenport is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Michaelsen, who died Tuesday, was born in Davenport.

She was a graduate of Davenport High School and Kinman Business University.

In 1937 she married Harold Michaelsen. They lived in Pullman, Sunnyside and Harrington Wash., and for the past 25 years in Colfax.

Her husband died in 1988.

Mrs. Michaelsen was a member of the Philanthropic and Educational Organization, the Aloha Club, the Pullman Lunch Bunch and Plymouth Congregational Church.

Survivors include a sister, Florence Paeper of Harrington and a brother, Alvin Paulsen of Davenport.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Colfax/Whitman County Hospital or Plymouth Congregational Church.

Larry Nilson Spokane

Memorial service for Larry George Nilson, 51, will be at 1 p.m. today at the Valley Church of Christ. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of the arrangements and cremation.

Born and raised in Spokane, Mr. Nilson died Wednesday.

He was a graduate of Central Valley High School and joined the Navy Air Corps and served in the Vietnam War.

Mr. Nilson worked in the automotive parts business for many years and owned and raced dragsters.

Survivors include his companion, Donna Fisher; a son, Rob Nilson of Austin, Texas; a brother, Charlie Nilson of Vancouver, Wash.; two sisters, Kari Klien of Saugus, Calif., and Zona Smith of Idaho.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Washington.

Walter Denison Spokane

Graveside service for Walter A. Denison, 68, will be at 11 a.m. today at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Denison, who was born in Potlatch, Idaho, died Tuesday.

He worked as a letter carrier for the postal service in Spokane, retiring in 1978.

Mr. Denison was a 47-year resident of Spokane.

He was a member of the First Free Methodist Church and the American Postal Workers Union.

His wife, Phyllis, died in 1975.

Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Virginia; a daughter, Carole Denison of Honduras; a son, Lance Denison of Deer Park; two stepsons, Darrell and Dale Larson, both of Spokane; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Free Methodist Church.

Dale Flake Spokane

No service will be held for Dale L. Flake, 72, at his request. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Flake, who was born in Bellingham, died Tuesday.

He graduated from Bellingham High School and served in the Navy during World War II.

Mr. Flake was a journeyman auto mechanic until he graduated from Western Washington University in 1967. He taught auto mechanics at Skagit Valley Community College in Mount Vernon until 1974, then at Rhein-Main Air Force Base in West Germany and for Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake.

In 1979 he moved to Spokane and taught auto mechanics at Spokane Community College until his retirement in 1986.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Shirley; three daughters, Claudia Manning of San Diego, Shelley Hayes of Bremerton and Barbara Danklefs of Spokane; a son, Dennis Flake of South Lake Tahoe, Nev.; his mother, Pearle Flake of Mt. Vernon, Wash.; a sister, Donna Berg of Mt. Vernon; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Anne Eacker Spokane

Visitation for Anne K. Eacker, 84, will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Eacker, who was born in Boise, died Tuesday.

She graduated from Boise High School.

In 1937 she married Maynard Eacker and together they owned City Tire Service in Weiser, Idaho. They moved to McCall, Idaho, and for more than 20 years she worked as an office manager and bookkeeper for the Shore Lodge.

She had lived in Spokane since 1986.

Her husband died in 1989.

Mrs. Eacker was a member of Chapter EW of the Philanthropic and Educational Organization and the Weiser Lady Elks.

She is survived by a daughter, Vicki Neely of Spokane; two sons, Russell Eacker of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Jay Eacker of Walla Walla; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children or the Elks Rehabilitation Center in Boise.

Peggie McAllen Spokane

No service will be held for Peggie G. McAllen, 89, at her request. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. McAllen, who was born in Minnesota, died Aug.8.

She lived in Springfield, Ill., for 15 years and then moved to East Lansing, Mich., where she worked for Michigan State University as a secretary to the dean of the graduate school of business.

Mrs. McAllen moved to Spokane in 1985.

She has had several poems published.

Her husband, Russell, died in 1985.

Survivors include a son, Robert McAllen of Los Angeles; a daughter, Margaret McGilvray of Spokane; a sister, Alice Wadswotth of Montevideo, Minn.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Donald Wright Spokane

Memorial service for Donald Preston Wright, 78, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Millwood Community Presbyterian Church. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Wright, who was born in Hatton, Wash., died Monday.

He was a graduate of Lind (Wash.) High School and Whitworth College.

Mr. Wright served in the Navy from 1942 to 1945. He married Mabel Lane in 1964.

He worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for Widco in Centralia, Wash., retiring in the early 1980s.

He moved to Spokane in 1985 from Rochester, Wash.

Mr. Wright was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, and was a Shriner and a Mason in Lind, Wash.

Survivors include his wife; five sons, Joel Wright of Iowa, Gary Applegarth of East Wenatchee, Wash., Larry and William Applegarth, both of Wenatchee, and David Applegarth of Spokane; five daughters, Amy Everson, Beth Jorgenson, Penny Asan and Julia Murray, all of Spokane, and Betty Miracle of Centralia; two brothers, Bob Wright of Lind and Dean Wright of Issaquah, Wash.; a sister, Shirley Yager of Othello, Wash.; numerous grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Margaret Meidinger Spokane

Memorial service for Margaret J. Meidinger, 81, is set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Meidinger, a 69-year Spokane area resident, died Tuesday. She was born in Hawaii.

She was a homemaker.

Her husband, John Meidinger, died in 1989.

Mrs. Meidinger is survived by two daughters, Lucille Giesey of Spokane and Joanne Melton of Vancouver, Wash.; a brother, Duke Thyrian of Spokane; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
