Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: Help! After washing my sheer curtains they are still dingy-looking. Any suggestions to get them looking a bit brighter? - R. Smith, Lancaster, Pa.

The answer is as close as the laundry aisle of your nearest supermarket.

Look for a “whitener and brighter” where the fabric dye is displayed. This product is helpful in brightening dingy laundry.

The whitener and brightener is safe for nonbleachable fabric and will help whiten whites that are a dingy gray color. It will help brighten dull colors, too; just be sure to read the package directions before beginning. - Heloise

Dear Heloise: Different lighting conditions usually require different makeup applications. A practical solution to the problem of adjusting makeup to anticipated lighting conditions can be arranged by installing a dimmer on the makeup table lights. - F.C., Houston
