Teen Dies, 4 Hurt In 1-Car Accident
A Spokane teenager was killed Monday in a one-car wreck on North Market Street, the Washington State Patrol reported.
Ryan Reid, 17, died at Deaconess Medical Center shortly after the 8 p.m. crash, troopers said. Four other teenagers were injured.
No one in the 1986 Honda 4-door was wearing a seat belt, according to WSP.
The driver, 17-year-old Jennifer Hawkins, broke her arm and several bones in her face. She also hurt her back in the wreck.
Rusty Howell, 16, was hospitalized with a ruptured spleen, and 17-year-old Athena Hernandez severely injured her neck.
Hawkins’ 13-year-old sister, Kimberly, had scrapes and bruises.
Troopers said the Honda was traveling south on Market when it left the road near Francis and smashed into a tree. The cause of the accident hasn’t been determined.
