Cheney Teenager Files Suit Saying Coach Attacked Him Claims He Was Pushed To Floor, Yelled At In Locker Room Incident
A teenager who said he was injured by a high school baseball coach during a locker room attack is suing Cheney School District and the coach.
Tim Jackson, 16, is seeking unspecified damages in Spokane County Superior Court.
In the lawsuit filed Tuesday, Jackson said he suffered neck and shoulder injuries on April 27, 1996, when coach Terry Regnier allegedly assaulted him.
Regnier continues to teach at Cheney High School but is no longer coaching.
He declined to comment on the suit Wednesday.
According to police reports, the school’s soccer and baseball teams were in the locker room when Regnier asked his players for a moment of silence.
Soccer players continued talking and Regnier demanded they shut up, according to police.
One of the soccer players made a joking comment, and Regnier assumed it came from Jackson.
Regnier rushed toward Jackson, shoving him off his seat onto the floor. The coach then grabbed the boy by the neck and screamed threats and insults at him, according to the suit.
Jackson claims to have suffered emotional distress and embarrassment from the incident.
