Carl Krause Post Falls

Service for Carl Lawrence Krause, 70, will be held at a later date. Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Krause, who was born in Colorado, died Aug. 12.

He lived in Colorado and had worked as a farmer and a heavy equipment operator for construction companies.

Mr. Krause moved to Post Falls in 1996.

Survivors include three daughters, Laura Wright of Post Falls, and Cynthia Summers and Carla Roarke, both of Montana; one son, Gary Krause of Montana; his mother, Wanetta Krause Erlich of Colorado; three sisters, Carolyn Ewertz and Reva Wright, both of Colorado, and Joyce Penny of Spokane; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

George Sala Spokane

Memorial service for George Emil Sala, 88, is set for 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Born in Harrison, Idaho, Mr. Sala died Monday.

He was an amateur boxer in his youth, and during World War II he served in the military in the European Theater.

He owned the Boat Drive-In in Smelterville, Idaho, and later the City Variety Store in Osburn, Idaho. He retired and moved to the Spokane Valley 34 years ago.

Mr. Sala became a Class A champion in horseshoe playing and won a bronze medal in the 1989 Washington Centennial Summer Games.

Survivors include his wife, LouElla; a son, Stephen Sala of Spokane; a sister, Helen Biotti of Kellogg; and four grandchildren.

Alvin Adams Sr. Spokane

No service will be held for Alvin J. Adams, Sr., 79, at his request. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Adams, who died Friday, was born in Oklahoma.

He served in the Army and Air Force for 20 years and retired in 1967. He received the Purple Heart.

He graduated from Spokane Community College as a baker and worked for several baking companies in Spokane. He later went to work as a custodian for the Mead School District for 10 years.

Mr. Adams is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carolyn; five sons, Arthur Adams of West Virginia, Charles Adams of Moses Lake, Michael Adams of Mount Vernon, Wash., Theodore Adams of Spokane and Alvin Adams of Spirit Lake, Idaho; four daughters, Maria Adams and Jeni Gourneau, both of Spokane, Ramona Dryden of Tacoma and Sharon Milton of California; two sisters, Opal Woodard of Ephrata, Wash., and Lucille Cranford of Oklahoma; 60 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and numerous foster children.

Velma Smith Spokane

Visitation for I. Velma Smith, 85, will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Friday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Service is set for 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Pines Cemetery.

Mrs. Smith, a 38-year Spokane resident, died Tuesday.

She was born in Calumet, Mont., and was an insurance rater.

She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Naomi Circle, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1474 Auxiliary and the Finlandia Foundation.

Her husband, Henry, died in 1973.

Survivors include a son, Henry Smith of Spokane; two daughters, Janice Daniels and Diane Thompson, both of Spokane; a brother, Onnie Juntilla of Osburn, Idaho; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Deloris Kennedy Spokane

Visitation for Deloris Kennedy, 70, will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Service is set for 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Pines Cemetery.

Mrs. Kennedy, who died Monday, was born in Ansley, Neb.

She graduated from high school in Plummer, Idaho, and was a homemaker.

She was a member of Spokane First Free Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years, William; two sons, Dana Kennedy of Bremerton and Rick Kennedy, at home; and five grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Spokane First Free Methodist Church.

Gilbert Miller Newport, Wash.

No service will be held for Gilbert W. Miller, 77, at his request. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Miller, who was born in Spokane, died Monday.

He worked as a meat cutter for 50 years in grocery stores around the Newport area.

There are no known surviving family members.

Claire Wilks Spokane

Memorial service for Claire Louise Wilks, 93, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Riplinger Funeral Home.

Ms. Wilks, who was born in Bedford, Va., died Monday.

She homesteaded with her parents near Tekoa, Wash., in 1908 and moved to Spokane in 1948.

She worked for the federal government during World War II.

Ms. Wilks is survived by four sisters, Mary Falls and Moreine Johnson, both of Spokane, Myrtle Heuett of Kelso, Wash., and Bernice Hoyt of Cheney.

Evelyn Anderson Spokane

Vigil service for Evelyn J. Anderson, 83, will be at 7 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is planned for 10 a.m. Friday at St. Peter Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Anderson, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Monday.

She was an executive secretary at Holy Names Academy, then worked at Gonzaga Prep. She also taught religious education classes at St. Peter Church.

Mrs. Anderson received the Holy Names Service Award Medal from the Sisters of the Holy Names in 1995.

She was a founding member of St. Peter Parish, president of the parish council and was active in the church altar society, St. Peter Golden Singles Club, St. Peter Parents Club, Holy Names Alumni Association and Sacred Heart Parent Club. She also was a Cub Scout leader.

Her husband, Edwin Anderson, died in 1981.

Survivors include two sons, Edwin and Mike Anderson, both of Spokane; four daughters, Sister Nancy Anderson, S.N.J.M., and Mary Fran Anderson, both of Seattle, Carol Karbowski of Sumner, Wash., and Chris Kratz of Lynnwood, Wash.; two brothers, Carl Petersen of Concord, Calif., and Gerard Peterson of Spokane; three sisters, Frances Campbell of Spokane, June Peterson of Newport, Wash., and Mary Fortier of Grants Pass, Ore.; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Holy Names.

Tessie Steiner Sprague, Wash.

Graveside service for Tessie May Steiner, 75, is set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Macabee Cemetery in Sprague. Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville, Wash., is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Steiner, who was born in Boise, died Sunday.

She graduated from Winchester (Idaho) High School in 1940. In August of 1940 she married George Steiner in Winchester.

They lived near Hells Canyon for several years and in 1968 moved to Chewelah, Wash. They moved to Sprague in 1973.

Mrs. Steiner worked for Galena Army Air Depot in Spokane as an airplane mechanic and later worked for Jake’s Cafe as a waitress for many years.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sprague and the Sprague 55-Plus Club.

Her husband died in 1995.

Mrs. Steiner is survived by three sons, Frank Steiner of Cheney, John Steiner of Anchorage, Alaska, and Danny Steiner of Renton, Wash.; and numerous grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sprague Cemetery District.

Daniel Faunce Tekoa, Wash.

Service for Daniel H. Faunce, 68, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the United Church of Christ in Tekoa. Burial will follow at the Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa. Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Faunce, who was born in Camden, N.J., died Sunday.

He entered the Air Force during his senior year in high school and served for six years, including three years during the Korean War.

In 1951 he married Alice “Doy” Frerich in Spokane. They lived in Riverside, Calif., and Poplar, Mont., before moving to Spokane, where they lived until 1966.

Mr. Faunce worked as a jet mechanic at Fairchild Air Force Base and Geiger Field. In 1964 he began working for Tekoa Skyways in Tekoa and in 1966 moved to Tekoa.

In 1977 the family started operating Faunce Ag Aviation and he semiretired in 1994. He also worked as a flight instructor in Spokane and Tekoa.

He was a member of the Pacific Northwest, Eastern Washington and National Aerial Applicators associations.

He served as a volunteer driver for Tekoa Ambulance and also did forest fire work while flying for the Civil Air Patrol.

His wife died in 1995.

Survivors include four sons, Alan Faunce of Kahlotus, Wash., Michael Faunce of Tigard, Ore., Gregory Faunce of Tekoa and Jeffery Faunce of Redmond, Wash.; two daughters, Janet Faunce of Kirkland, Wash., and Alicia Byrum of Tekoa; a brother, Richard Faunce of Barrington, N.J.; a sister, June Grable of Tampa, Fla.; and 13 grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Tekoa Ambulance Fund.

Del Logsdon Walla Walla

Memorial service for Del E. Logsdon, 76, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mountain View Funeral Chapel in Walla Walla.

Born in Endicott, Wash., Mr. Logsdon died Monday.

He owned the Hacienda Motel in Cheney for several years.

In 1974 he moved to Walla Walla and worked as the head maintenance custodian for Walla Walla Community College.

Mr. Logsdon was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War and the National Rifle Association.

Survivors include his wife, Esther; two daughters, Mary Lynn Shilvok of Shoreline, Wash., and Maxine Heidenrich of Milton-Freewater, Ore.; four sons, Cye, Lester and Robert Logsdon, all of Walla Walla and William Logsdon of Spokane; a sister, June Beach of Phoenix, Ariz.; two brothers, Daniel Logsdon of Spokane and Lowell Logsdon of Walla Walla; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Walla Walla Community Hospice in care of the funeral home.
